Act 4 spot science practical

On the 14th of February we had 2 water activities. The first was 'barrel filling', it is a team activity where a barrel on the field had to be filled to the rim with water in the least amount of time but the barrel had many small holes in it making it difficult to even finish the task and fill it to the top. The second is raft building, it is an activity where you and your team have to build a raft with the materials given and try to float two of your team mates across the pool on the raft.

I would put my participation at achieved level because I had brought my PE gear but I didn't bring any clothes to get wet in so I had to use my PE gear but I had PE next so my gear was a little wet when we went to class. During the activity I had followed the instructions given to me to 'hug' the barrel to cover more holes than my hands can do by themselves. I had also switched positions with a teammate because some of my muscles were aching from staying in the same in the same posture for too long and he was tired of running back and forth, so he covered holes while I got the water to fill the barrel. In the 'raft building' activity I helped tie down and construct the raft while some others were trying to find another way to make the raft float more efficiently with the remaining equipment.

Several factors influenced our teams success. The first was when the water level became higher, the more water came out and there weren't enough hands to block the holes. The second was aching muscles, staying in the same position caused a lot of people to get cramps or tire easily. The second was equipment. Two of the containers that we had to use to fill up the barrel with were cracked at the bottom. Another factor was rushing. When people were going to fast, rushing to fill the barrel before the water was out, they would slip and slide tipping most of the water out of their containers. We overcame some of our problems with a little thinking, with the aching muscles, we chose to lie down and block it with our stomachs instead of our arms. Another solution was to walk quickly but to stop swaying from side to side.

If I was to improve my participation to give myself a higher grade, I would make sure what activity we had on the day and get my gear accordingly. I would also help where I am needed so we can accomplish what we need to do quicker.
